Vampiru
3m & 2f; age 14+; first produced at Kresch Theater, Krefeld, 2008
Having run out of petrol, Fischkopf, Lope, Kiki and Wolfram find themselves stranded at a remote outpost on the Rumanian border. They had set out at midnight to visit a legendary uncle who is reputed to be a chef in Count Dracula’s castle. Now they are stuck in this no-man’s-land, and there’s no petrol station anywhere in sight – just a broad river, desolate countryside, and a few weird figures. In this twilight zone, many things come to the surface – emotions well up or die down, and the unspoken suddenly finds expression. The four are great friends at one moment and hurl insults at each other the next; they play their roles to the full, moving between past and future and seeking some sort of link between the dreams and realities of their lives. As they stand on the frontier to adulthood, this foreign border seems somehow to be a kind of home.
